Congrats on the purchase and welcome to Niknon

Cute dog! Animal pictures are a blast. How's the autofocus on your camera working for you with that, if you don't mind me asking

The AF works just fine, just push AF-LOCK when needed.

That pic was taken with my sigma zoom lens which hasn't got an AF motor in it

All details of what I bought are in my signiture.

Thanks for the welcome.

Congrats! The D40 has a celebrated sensor within it. It will give you great files for some time to come. I'm constantly amazed at how clean my shooting partner's shots come out with that camera.

No burnt out whites/colours and still plenty of detail
Just the way I like it.

Gorgeous That's a great looking flower to do a B&W with too, with how the buds deepen in color as they progress

I must admit I cheated a little.

Basicly that photo is only the red channel by it'self then converted to grayscale

In the Original colour print it went from dark (dark being red) to light tips.

Ye good old trusty Seagull.......

I'm quite pleased on how I didn't get hardly and "burnouts" in the feathers of the bird.
