That's a nice collection you got there. How do you like the 50mm L? I'm thinking of picking up one of those next.
Here's mine (also all Canon gear): 10-22mm, 50mm macro, 100mm macro, 24-70mmL, 70-200 f/2.8L. I think I have the kit lens (18-55, no USM, no IS) somewhere too.

Flare, vignetting, CA are well controlled. Out-of-focus blur (Bokeh) is very pleasing and ideal for potraits. Technically, the lens is defective (all copies of it). You won't notice this defect until you actually shoot test charts. Issue: Centre-focus, up close (<1.5') & stopped down (<f/2.2), there's a slight focus-shift and/or back/front-focus. Thus, most people who purchase this lens don't notice this. The problem is minute and very very negligible. Initially, I could not spot it. I took multiple test pics and could not replicate the issue. Before purchasing from B&H, I checked out a couple of 50Ls at a local store and could not replicate the issue either. Here's a test pic I took (stopped down to f/2.2 with centre-AF. Focus point on top-eye): ![]() Then I noticed that the DOF seems to start at the eye and extend backward. This is the classic sign of the focus shift. With this lens the issue seems well enough controlled to maintain the focus plane inside the DOF (or perhaps the focus was slightly forward). This is why many folks don't notice the problem or don't care. The back-focus of this lens at f/2.8 is about 4-6mm. See charts below. For what it's worth, 6mm (or even 10mm) of backfocus at this distance isn't a big deal for me, and I imagine, not a big deal for many people. This lens takes great images, and that's what counts. The 50L 1.2 is a heck of a lens. ![]() ![]() Cheers, Sabesh. |

Here's mine......
70-200 f/2.8L 70-200 f/4L IS (this was an impulse buy, smaller and lighter than the f/2.8) 24-105 f/4L IS (this is my standard carry around lens) 17-40 f/4L 300 f/2.8L IS (I so want to get the 400 next) and my backup lenses..... Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 Sigma 18-125 (nice light vacation snapshot lens, this is my only "digital-only" lens) Canon 75-300 (crap lens sitting and collecting dust) and I suppose since I have a T-mount for my telescope, that would count too Meade LX90 8" Schmidt Cassegrain telescope (equivalent of 2000mm at f/10) Last edited by jseah : 02-17-2009 at 06:49 PM. |

No heavy hitters here. I have these Canon lenses:
Kit lens: 18-55mm (I know it's not a great lens but takes most of the standard pics I need) 50mm 1.8 (my favorite lens when the occasion presents itself) 55-200mm (would love to sell and replace with a 24-105L as a walkaround lens) |
