The new 70-200 is supposed to be a pretty decent improvement over the old one. I've not tried it but that's what I've read pretty much every time

Yeah, unfortunately I probably won't be able to buy that lens anyways, gonna try to sell my 70-200mm f4 non IS and get the IS version, and gonna try to upgrade my camera to a 5dmk2 as well, instead of trying to get the 70-200mm f2.8 mk2 lens, it makes more sense to me.

The prices of the 5dmk2 have come down a lot, it's $2600 right now or $3400 with a kit lens of 24-105mm L f4 IS. So, since the 70-200mm f2.8 mk2 IS lens is about $2400, it makes more sense to just the get the 5dmk2 instead of the lens, or add another $1000 and get the 5dmk2 and the kit lens.
Then i can keep my 70-200mm f4non IS, or sell that as well and add another $500 and get the f4IS version. I'm selling my two 420EX flashes since i don't really need them and they don't match the 580EXII in power or recharging speed, so i'll get some money from there. Hopefully i can get the camera by itself or the camera with the kit lens next month!!!

Hahah, it's more of trying to juggle the money without going into debt, save a couple of hundred this month and next month, sell the flashes, etc...and hopefully not have to go into debt for next month and be able to get the camera and the kit lens, and maybe still have my 70-200mm f4non IS still, which i could then sell in september and add some more cash and get the IS version.
Wishful thinking, but wanting to take my photography to the next level as well.

5D-II is an excellent camera. I have one and I shoot mostly portraits with it. One thing to note: It's peripheral AF points are not as reliable as the centre-point. Because of this, you will find yourself eschewing the rule of Thirds (unless you focus and then recompose). My 7D outperforms the 5D-II in AF, so I use that for moving targets and off-centre shots.
Regarding the 70-200/2.8 IS Mk.II: It's an awesome zoom> A few friends have it and they swear by it. It's almost as sharp as primes and distortion is well controlled at both ends. I decided not to get one as I hardly use zooms these days. Besides, the last time I carried around one all day (Mk.I), my shoulder ached, lol (too much junk food & not much exercise). Cheers. |

Yeah I only intend to shoot portraits with it, not fast moving stuff, for that I'll still have my XSI, but I've been shooting models mostly and looking to get into commercial/advertising work involving models so I don't expect them to run away.
I'm just fed up with the XSI's noise even at ISO 400, to the point that i can only shoot at ISO 100-200 with it, which is fine outdoors but a pain indoors when i sometimes have to go to 400 or God forbid 800 and hope for the best, it's not meant to be a pro camera, I know. That's why i'm going for the 5dmk2 since people said there's pretty much no noise at ISO 1600 or even 3200, which I don't expect to use often but would still love to have the choice of going that high. The 70-200mm mk2 is very heavy, that's what i've heard anyways, and obviously very expensive pretty much the price of a brand new 5dmk2 camera. So, i'd rather get the f4 IS version and the 5dmk2 and should be ok, don't think i'd need the f2.8 stop outside and most likely not in the studio either. I've got used to my 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens a lot so that's why i'm hoping to buy the 5dmk2 with the kit lens of 25-105mm F4L IS since it shoud be sharper, better image quality as well and it'll have IS which I desperately need. If I can get the kit combo and upgrade my 70-200mm f4 non IS to an IS lens then i'll be happy for a long time. ![]()

Get it. That lens is amazing. You won't need the IS.
